On the occasion of the exhibition “The painter of the King. Luigi Norfini in Italy of the Risorgimento", promoted by the National Museums of Lucca and the Palazzo Galeotti Museum of Pescia (20 December 2025 – 26 April 2026), the National Museum of Risorgimento He participated in the restoration of two works by Luigi Norfini:
- Vittorio Emanuele II and the Zouaves. Victory of Palestro (1863)
- Portrait of Vittorio Emanuele II (1878)
Thanks to the intervention of the Conservation and Restoration Center “La Venaria Reale”, the works have been restored and prepared for safe loan and display. In particular, Vittorio Emanuele II and the Zouaves. Victory of Palestro, a monumental canvas of almost 3 × 5 meters, has been restored through a construction site open to the public, offering a unique opportunity to closely observe the restoration phases and understand the technical processes underlying the conservation of a masterpiece.
In the coming months, visitors to the Sala della Camera Italiana will notice the temporary absence of the painting, now on loan for the major monographic exhibition dedicated to Luigi Norfini.
