The exhibition illustrates, through the great variety of representations produced by the acute and ironic observation of Dalsani, one of the greatest Italian caricaturists and poster artists between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, a cross-section of the life and taste of the middle classes at the time of the belle époque., their satisfaction at living in an era considered beautiful par excellence, together with their faith in a progress deemed unstoppable.
The exhibition, featuring 256 objects, is divided into eight sections: after the initial section on Dalsani, there are leisure, new sports, fashion, entertainment, advertising, exhibitions, education, and political caricature. Given Dalsani's commitment to designing fashion plates for major fashion houses, various period women's dresses are also on display, on loan from the Museo del Costume Moda Immagine in Milan, the Liceo Artistico e Musicale Istituto d'Arte Aldo Passoni in Turin, and a private collection.
The initiative is in collaboration with the descendants of Giorgio Ansaldi (Dalsani) and with the Museum of Risorgimento – Civic Historical Collections of Milan.
