Fund description

The collection preserves the political and personal correspondence of Giuseppe Dabormida (1799-1869) from 1841 to 1868 and the documentation produced during his activity as a soldier, minister, and plenipotentiary. The most conspicuous part of the collection is represented by the political correspondence with Giacinto Collegno, Alfonso Lamarmora, Emanuele and Massimo d’Azeglio, and Salvatore Pes di Villamarina relating to the Milan Negotiations of 1849, the Crimean War, and the affairs dealt with during his term as Minister of Foreign Affairs (1852-1855, 1859). Finally, part of the collection preserves the correspondence between Luigi Chiala and the statesman's son, Vittorio Dabormida, who died in the Battle of Adua (1896).
